The Big ONE

On May 3rd, Sawyer turned one!  It completely seems unreal that he was born a year ago.  It has been such a blessing to watch him grow and turn into a little person this year.  And even more of a blessing that I have got to watch the three of them develop such a strong sibling bond.  I love watching my kids play together and love on eachother!

Sawyer is less serious than he used to be, but is very much our most stubborn one.  He has been throwing temper tantrums for the longest time which includes (but is not limited too) banging his head on the floor.  I put my foot out to buffer the blow, but he will just sit back up and bang it again if the full impact was not made the first attempt.  He bites when he doesn't get what he wants, or hits, or pulls hair.  With all that being said, he is super sweet most of the time.  He loves Rilyn and Ryder and thinks they are the funniest people alive.  He's super obsessed with Tyler and has started crying when Tyler leaves for work and always makes sure I am giving him lots of attention.  He hasn't had too much stranger anxiety and at the most might whimper when I hand him off at Sunday School.  He pretends to be shy for a brief second but really just wants all the attention.

He loves playing with toys and entertains himself very well.  He enjoys putting objects into holes or objects into different containers.  He is very happy with canning rings and yogurt containers.  I would say he is the first of mine to really play with non-toy items.  Rilyn didn't play with anything and Ryder was obsessed with books and most toys.  Sawyer is content with the recyclable bin.  He thinks balls are the greatest and actually has a better arm than Ryder.  He can throw very well and likes to actually play toss with another person.  He has a lovey that he would suck on all day if we didn't make him keep it in his crib for the most part.  He hates the jumper which I still use if I need to shower but he will protest in it the whole time.  He hates being confined.  Even when he is done eating he wants down from his chair immediately so I've learned to eat very fast.

Sawyer is just starting to take 1 - 2 steps and doesn't have much interest in walking.  He gets around very well crawling so probably doesn't see the need.  He does scoot along furniture really well.  He waves bye and says yuck, yum, mama, dada, and bubba.

He is still nursing about 5 - 6 times in a 24 hour period.  Yep, that means he's still waking up 1 - 2 times at night to eat.  I'm hopeful when he starts walking he will start sleeping through the night.  I mean he has to sleep through the night eventually right?  He is a great eater and will eat most things.  His favorites are macaroni and cheese, cottage cheese, raspberries, blueberries, sweet potatoes, fish, carrots, applesauce (the grandma Decker kind of course), and cheese.  Oh how this boy loves cheese. Really there isn't too much he won't eat consistently.  Other than cream of wheat and cheerios I can't really think of something he truly dislikes.

As far as sleeping goes, he's in bed between 6:30 and 7 and than usually up again at 11ish and 3ish and than up for the day between 6 and 7.  He takes two naps but can survive without a morning nap if he needs too.  I actually think his morning nap would be his longest if I didn't have to make it work so he naps when the other two do.  It's really nice to get an hour out of the day when all 3 kids are asleep!

During his one year old check-up, our pediatrician asked if we had any questions or concerns and Tyler and I said no but than Ryder looked up at him and said, "Sawyer bites."  Ha, it was too funny.  I love how all our appointments become a family event.  Sawyer is definitely our little squirt.  He weighs 19.1 lbs and is 29 7/8 inches long.  His head circumference is 17 3/4 inches.  He is healthy and doing everything he should be doing.

Sawyer is very active and loves to be outside.  He is still very easy to take places and we have a lot of fun out and about.  He loves to dance and gets very excited when music comes on.  I'm excited to spend lots of time outside with him this summer at parks and at the splash pad.  I think he is going to love the splash pad.

He is such a fun kid to have around and brings so much joy to our lives.  I'm so happy that he is ours!

April in Review

Here are some things we were up to this last April.

We got to hang out with Xander a couple times, even once for a sleepover!  We've been very excited for Xander to get old enough that he could have a sleepover and the kids spoiled him rotten the whole time he was here.

We got to see Aebrynn for a a little while one day too...Rilyn took the chance to love on her as much as she could.

Root beer floats are definitely needed on a sleepover

Some screen time before bedtime stories.
Lots of time was spent outside.  The kids play for hours on their swing set, tramopline, or with their other outside toys.  We go on lots of walks, and hang out at parks often.

This is what happens when the train passes by

Ryder, Sawyer, and I even accomplished the new 200 stair incline at a new rec center in Castle Rock. They also built an amazing park, which I'm sure we will be spending hours at come this summer.

Ryder at the top

Speaking of the new rec center...the outside is great but the inside is great too.  There is a huge indoor playground with a little spot for crawlers like Sawyer and the kids really enjoyed the pool.  This was Sawyer's first time swimming and he was a little more apprehensive about it than I thought he would be.  He loves the bathtub, dog water, and toilet water so I thought the pool would be his favorite.  He was fine as long as I was hanging onto him, and got pretty comfortable as time went on so I'm confident next time he will like it even better.

Rilyn spent the weekend in Steamboat with Grandma and Grandpa Decker visiting Stacey and Jason. She felt very special and had so much fun.  Ms. Independent probably would have stayed a couple more weeks before missing us.  Although, Ryder really missed her and when she got home he said, "Sissy I was worried about you!"  Sawyer was even excited and started screeching and loving on her the second he saw her.

Looks like the waterfall was a little scary....for just a little time

We obviously spent a lot of time doing the usual normal day to day stuff, which is my favorite. Being home with the kids and watching them play, create, and be real pains is the best part of being a mom.

Nursing just like mama

These two spend the majority of their day snuggled together

They made 3 of the these creations this session.  Their goal...cover entire paper with paint (walls, floors, bodies too)
