1st Swim Lessons

This morning we went to Rilyn's first swim lessons.  The good news is she can now swim all by herself and I don't have to get in the pool...ya right...but I wish :)

The class was pretty silly we just sang two songs and then the kids got to "swim" with their parents, so really I could just take her to the pool and not pay for swim lessons, but this will get us there more consistently so this summer she (hopefully) enjoys the pool.

She didn't hate the water, but she also didn't love it.  She is kind of a wimp (like her mama) when it comes to cold water so she shivered the whole time and tried to cuddle.  She really started liking it towards the end though and REALLY loved watching the other kids.

My favorite part was her cloth swim diaper!  We hadn't used it yet, and it worked perfect.  I think I spent like $7.00 bucks on it and we can use it over and over.  A pack of swim diapers is like $12.00 and I would imagine going through those like crazy in the summer so I'm pretty pumped about saving some money (for more stupid swim lessons) with our cloth swim diaper.  Plus, it is pretty darn cute.

Can't wait for next week!

Life....

I have no real title for this post because really it is just about life.  Not much has been going on around here just...well...living life.

Rilyn is walking/running everywhere and has been for a little over a week.  She has been able to walk for awhile but didn't choose to walk over crawling and now that has changed.  She definitely chooses walking over crawling. It's been fun to get outside a little more and it's been nice to have her walk and give my back a little break.  Especially since I lift kids at work all day long and they are not by any means little.

She is also talking and signing tons more every day.  Her new favorite is more and "uh oh."  Of course today as we were shopping she was throwing things out of the cart saying "uh oh" before she even dropped them.

Rilyn also got a few fun toys at Ikea the other day.  We really need to stop shopping there because we spend way to much money every time.  Rilyn got a little kid table, some veggie friends, and a step stool so hopefully soon she can start helping daddy cook!

We are planning on taking Rilyn to her first swim lesson tomorrow and I am very excited to see if she enjoys it or not.  Of course getting into my maternity swim suit is not fun and I'm not looking forward to putting it on or getting in a pool at 8:00 AM tomorrow morning.  I'm sure there will be a post soon!

Week Re-cap and 16 weeks!

Well it is Friday and we are super happy about that here at the Decker household.  No real amazing plans for the weekend just some hanging out at the house to get stuff done and some Decker family time later on Sunday.
This week was a recovery week from all the snow and sickness that engulfed us last weekend.

Last Saturday Rilyn ended up with a 104 degree fever, in which Tyler and I ended up waking up every couple hours to make sure it was going down.  We were definitely more affected by it than Rilyn!  Sunday morning as I rocked her she ended up breaking it around 6:00 AM.  She was still super tired and just loved on me for another couple hours on the couch, which was actually so nice!  The rest of the day she recovered and so did Tyler and I.

Unfortunately we were able to dig out of the snow and had to go to work on Monday, but it sure was pretty while it was around.  I really loved being "snowed" in for the weekend with just my handsome hubby and little girl!

On Wednesday we had our 16 week appointment at the birth center.  It was pretty low key and just seems super easy this time around.  We were able to hear the heart beat which was fun since last time we couldn't.  It was 150.  I've also lost 4 lbs since our last appointment.  Go figure...it sure would be nice to lose weight when I'm not pregnant!  I'm sure I will gain it back soon just like I did with Rilyn.  Rilyn stayed with Grandma and Grandpa Decker which was so nice for us because we got to focus on this little one growing inside me.  Something we really never do.  I'd forget I am pregnant most days if it wasn't for the never ending protein I'm shoving in my mouth!

We hope everyone has a great weekend!

Snow day...sick day

So, our snow day ended in a sick day for two of the Decker members making for a very tired and over worked daddy!  He might have posted about how amazing I was last night, but seriously he gets all the credit for taking care of Rilyn and I today.

I started getting sick yesterday and today have a massive headache, a cough, and am pretty tired.  Nothing like being pregnant and sick to wipe out any energy stores you might have!

And then this afternoon Rilyn caught whatever it is I have and spiked a little (and her first) fever.  I figured as soon as she stopped nursing she would catch something because there is nothing like breastmilk to keep all the cooties at bay!

So, what does a first time mom with a first time fever do you might ask?  Check the baby's temperature every 15 minutes for the last 8 hours, and yep I totally just went in while she was sleeping and checked it again.  It's staying at 100.1 - 100.7, and I'm sure she will break by the morning but I want to know if it gets worse so I will probably keep risking waking a sleeping and sick baby to make sure it doesn't go any higher.

A sick Rilyn is kind of a sweet Rilyn.  She cuddled all afternoon and we soaked up the love.  She would try every half hour or so to get down and play but would be down for max 5 minutes and want to cuddle again.  That is definitely how we knew she was not feeling herself.

This morning while I was sleeping - you know because my amazing husband got up with Rilyn the early riser at 5:00 AM - Rilyn did continue to get into trouble as you can tell from the pics below:

And then the poor girl just laid around the rest of the day and watched the snow fall...

So happy Tyler was home to help today and hoping Rilyn is feeling 100% tomorrow!

Amazing

I think a while back I had a blog where I basically said (in the perfect 2 year old voice).

Nah Nah.

Seriously (and think on this, this is purely selfish and his little/nothing to do with our kid).

My wife rocks my world.  In so many ways.

Unfortunately, we got knocked up before we really knew what we were doing pregnancy/kid wise.
  • Did you know that my amazing wife gave birth to our kid without a single dose of a pain killer?
    • And yeah, she one upped her own darn self and was back home 5 hours after birth.
Unfortunately, love dictated that the two of us married into a substantial portion of debt.  Credit cards, car payments, and a lifestyle that is crippling long term.
  • Did you know that my amazing wife paid off a ton of credit card debt in under 3 years?
    • And yeah, she one upped her own darn self and paid off her car 2 months later.
Unfortunately, based on our crappy as H E Double Hockey Sticks credit report, our debt, and general financial situation, we should have been forced to rent for the next 15 years.
  • Did you know that my amazing wife purchased us a house to live in, one that we own, one that we can afford?
    • And yeah, she one upped her own darn self and put together a plan to put away money in savings, and even a college fund for Rilyn.

Unfortunately, in this McDonald's production line driven world of streamlined (see "unhealthy") food, and lets be honest, life, our choices are so, so (and another parenthesis "so") limited.
  • Did you know that my amazing wife is H E Double Hockey Sticks bent on making our food as healthy as it can be?
    • And yeah, she one upped her own darn self and I'd bet we cook more food from scratch than you can imagine (tip of the iceberg...have you ever boiled a pot of beans?).
Unfortunately, we've been programmed to believe that the only way to make your house clean is to pump it full of chemicals (which may or may not be harmful).
  • Did you know my amazing wife has implemented cleaning with basically vinegar and baking soda?
    • And yeah, she one upped her own darn self, and I swear that after a good cleaning I don't feel like I'm going to cough up a Lysol lung.
I wish I had something more clever, but I don't.

Nah Nah.

Children's Museum and Quinoa Blueberry Muffins

Today Rilyn and ventured out to the Children's Museum in Denver.  We got a membership for her birthday from the Deckers and couldn't wait to use it!

I love that they have a place especially for babies so she was able to crawl around and play with everything without getting smooshed by the bigger kids.  We actually stayed in that one area the whole time and she was completely entertained.  We did take a quick look around to see what else there was, but I think that area is going to be our favorite for awhile.

She loved crawling on the bridge and sliding down it and cuddling with all the big bears.  She also loved cuddling with all the other mamas (what a ham).  She would just go over to one and put her head on them and give them love for a second or two and then walk away.  Obviously she can just tell when people need a little lovin and she is not afraid to pass it out.

I can't wait to go back and explore more areas.  It's nice not feeling rushed to do everything because we can go back whenever for free!!!

even the textured wall needs some love

hello!  I can go the bathroom without holding her! Disclaimer...I was not going to the bathroom when this was taken.
We are supposed to get a big snowstorm this weekend.  I have mixed feelings about it honestly.  I really dislike having snowdays when I'm already off of school.  Those extra days off are so nice, and we don't get a lot of them.  Tomorrow would definitely be one and I am off anyways.  I shouldn't complain because at least I'm off work, but I am anyways!

The nice thing is Tyler might be off too and we can spend the day together.  I'm also pretty nervous about being snowed in...this girl likes to be out and about and 3 days in the house may make me crazy.

I'm sure she will be getting into lots of trouble like this:

And if you are wondering all pictures above have been taken on one day.  Yes, we have changed outfits 3 times.  Some days that's just how life goes.  Good thing I don't mind doing laundry and my hubby let me purchase a pretty washer and dryer to do all that laundry in!

Last but not least, this week I made some Quinoa Blueberry Muffins.  I got the recipe from this lady's blog
http://takebackyourtable.com/
I am always looking for ways to sneak in protein and lets face it...Quinoa has to be one of the healthiest foods you can eat.  So, I thought we would give it a shot.  Rilyn LOVED them and has been eating them for days now.  I am so-so with them.  I think the whole wheat flour I added made them pretty tough, but for a "healthy" muffin they are pretty good.  It's hard not one a sugar-filled blueberry muffin instead because let's face it they taste better!  But, for breakfast and a quick snack these are awesome!
